Firefighters have rescued a one-year-old girl who was locked inside a deserted daycare centre.
’ father called for help after he arrived at the Chicago daycare centre to pick up his daughter and heard her crying from behind the locked doors of the All Things Are Possible for Kids centre, ABC 22 Now reported.
Video footage shows crews busting open the door, and torchlight illuminating the crying toddler, who was crawling around the dark room.
“I didn’t know what was going on.”
Mr Jones said realising his daughter had been confined to a dark room alone was heart-breaking.
“The police had the flashlight down and the only thing I could see was my baby crawling on the floor,” he said.
The local Department of Children and Family Services has launched an investigation into the incident, and the daycare centre has not yet commented on the matter.
Jones, said staff told him that ‘they were still in the back of the day care at the time he arrived.’
The Director of the day care has also apologized to Journee’s mother, Quanesha Borum.
Borum told Fox 32: ‘She [the director] told me that they thought Journee was a doll, but she’s not that little to be a doll, so it’s some excuses.’
